Demonstration sample created for this portfolio. "Atlas" is a fictional GIS product; the approach reflects the enterprise user manuals I've written for training departments, condensed to quick-start form.

1.0What you'll do in this guide

By the end of this guide you will open today's route, complete a work order in the field, and sync your work back to the office — including what to do when you have no signal. That's a normal day in Atlas, start to finish.

Before you start You need the Atlas app installed and a username from your supervisor. If the app asks for a workspace code, it's the same code your whole crew uses — check the whiteboard or ask dispatch.

2.0Open today's route

  1. Sign in and let the map load.

Open Atlas and sign in. The first load of the day downloads your map area — stay on Wi-Fi until the blue progress bar finishes. After that, the map works offline.

  2. Open your route.

Select Routes at the bottom of the screen. Today's route is at the top, named with the date. Your stops appear as numbered pins on the map, in driving order.

  3. Start your first stop.

Select pin 1, then select Start work order. Atlas records your start time automatically — you don't need to write it down.

3.0Complete the work order

  1. Fill in the checklist.

Work through each item on the checklist. Required items are marked with a red asterisk — you can't close the order without them.

  2. Attach photos.

Select the camera icon to attach photos. Take at least one before and one after photo; Atlas labels them with time and location for you.

  3. Close the order.

Select Complete, then Confirm. The pin turns green and the map advances to your next stop.

No signal? Keep working. Atlas saves everything on your device and shows an Offline badge at the top of the screen. Your work uploads automatically the next time you have a connection — nothing is lost.

4.0Sync at end of day

  1. Check the sync badge.

On the Routes screen, look at the cloud icon. A checkmark means everything is uploaded. A number means that many items are still waiting to sync.

  2. Force a sync if needed.

If items are waiting and you're on Wi-Fi, pull down on the Routes screen to sync now. Dispatch can't see your completed work until this number reaches zero.

You're done When the cloud icon shows a checkmark, your day is submitted. Time records, photos, and checklists are all in — no paperwork to turn in.

5.0Common first-week questions

QuestionAnswer
The map is blank or gray.Your map area didn't finish downloading. Connect to Wi-Fi, then go to Settings > Map areas > Download.
I completed a stop by mistake.Select the green pin, then Reopen work order. Reopening is logged, so add a short note about why.
My stops are in a strange order.Dispatch sets the order. If a stop is clearly wrong (closed site, wrong address), flag it with Report issue on the pin instead of skipping it silently.
